Proper Water InTake

Drink Better
Most people are familiar with the term dehydration but tend to think of it only in drastic terms, thanks to how movies depict dehydration! The lack of adequate amounts of water actually has symptoms. If we aren’t getting enough water, we might notice:
  • Feeling thirsty or even sleepy
  • Mild headache
  • Dry skin
  • Even feeling hungry can be a sign of dehydration
So how much water is enough? Check this out from mayoclinic.org:
Every day you lose water through your breath, sweat, urine, and bowel movements. For your body to function correctly, you must replenish its water supply by consuming beverages and foods that contain water. So how much fluid does the average, healthy adult living in a temperate climate need? The U.S. National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine determined that an adequate daily fluid intake is:
  • About 15.5 cups (3.7 liters) of fluids a day for men
  • About 11.5 cups (2.7 liters) of fluids a day for women
These recommendations cover fluids from water, other beverages, and food. About 20% of daily fluid intake usually comes from food, and the rest from drinks. We can count things such as milk, juice, coffee, soda, tea, and fruits or vegetables like watermelon and spinach, which are almost 100% water by weight.
Here are some great tips for tracking how much water we consume each day, which often leads to making sure we are drinking enough:
  • Fill a gallon or liter jug/pitcher each morning to keep track of how much you have  consumed
  • Use hair ties or rubber bands around the neck of a water bottle to keep track of how many times you filled it that day
  • Get a water bottle that has hourly markings to keep you on pace amazon bottle
  • If you are a retail bottled-water drinker, keep the cap of each bottle you have consumed throughout the day
